(在许多世纪之前，一位名叫王勃的中国哲学家和诗人写过：“海内存知己、天涯若比邻”)。美国国务院的中国通又为里根在第二天中国总理晚宴上的祝酒辞中加了一句加大互信力度的话：… let us be of the same mind.
